   One way to be successful licensed psychologist to have a lot of patience with your patients, because of the fact that a lot of people have trouble expressing what they are feeling especially when it's with someone they are not familiar with. Not only that, but because if a psychologist does not have patience or shows any sign that they are getting impatient, then the their patient will get uncomfortable, therefore causing them not to trust that particular psychologist and will most likely leave that psychologist and go to another psychologist, so this can also be a matter of economic success or failure.
According to Allaboutpsychology.net, "Patience and care are not optional. Those who desire to fully pursue psychology careers will need to call on patience on a daily basis."   With this, a psychologist can be able to help a person find a healthy balance between their emotions.

Service Learning

Starting on Tuesday, the 17th, I will be going to Golden Springs Elementary School to present to the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. The principle of the school is Alan Pantanini. The number for the schools' main office is:

So far I have been working with Mrs. Ortega in the preparation process and we have been meeting at least twice a week and coming up with ideas for lessons for the days that we will present to the elementary.

So far we have been preparing a presentation, starting with Bullying, which explains what a child should do if he/she is being bullied, the effects of someone being bullied, etc. and along with that presentation we have filmed students that are talking about their personal experiences or struggles with bullying from the past and made a video for that presentation. We have also been coming up with follow-up lessons, for example our next lesson will be on Conflicts and what different types of conflicts there are, which also ties in with Bullying.

ESLR's

1. I'm focusing on the Effective Communicator and Effective Citizen.

2.  For Effective Communicator, I will be presenting more than once to elementary students as part of my service learning, and will be so far I have done one practice presentation during my elective to Peer Mediation. For Effective Citizen I will have to know how to talk to the elementary students and know the proper way to get their attention.

3. This will help me by giving me more practice in presenting before the final 2 hour presentations come. Also it will give me better communication skills for when I have a job and will be able to establish a good working environment.

Self Reflection

1. I think that I am at a P+, because so far I have been keeping up with all my interviews and research checks, and every week, about twice a week, I am working on my service learning and I have more opportunities to be working on my Independent Component as well, since many of the things we work on within my service learning can tie in with the Independent Component. Also, besides the meetings, whenever I see something that ties in with psychology or with the certain presentation we're working on I can take detailed notes and use them for service learning. I'm also doing continuous research in order to come up with lessons and presentations to do within service learning.

2. One thing that I think I have done well on is simply finding and following through with my service learning, because of the fact that a few others still don't even have a set place or person to do their service learning with, and we have weekly meetings to work on lessons that we will present to younger children.

3. I would like to improve on learning more methods of how to successfully communicate with some one who is having problems so that I can help them solve whatever the problem may be. For example, in Peer Mediation, I would like to become a great mediator so that what I learn now can help me in the future.

Science Fair Proposal

1. If a teenager trying to memorize dictionary definitions is subject to a high level of background noise, then their retention rate will be low.

3. My science experiment deals with memory, which is a big part of psychology which attempts to see how well a person can store information under certain circumstances. Also, since I am mainly focusing on child and family psychology the age range will help me know how much a student can remember when in a loud environment. 

4. I will need 3 lists of 20 random words and their definitions (this vocabulary list will be at a 12th grade reading level), a decibel meter (Ms. Melogno has one I can borrow), a timer, and speakers. A total of 22 participants will take three tests, each one of the three sets of random words. The first in a silent room, the second in a semi-noisy room, and the third in a noisy room.

I will get the 12th grade vocabulary list from the California Department of Education.

The participants will have 5 minutes to look at 20 vocabulary words and their definitions. Once time is up he/she will take a test that lists words, but not their definitions; they must fill in the definitions. Once I have collected this data, I will use statistics to analyze the significance of my results.
